Headmaster Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore is the much-loved character within the Harry Potter world and one of my top three alongside Harry and Severus. The one thing that I do love about him is his wisdom and compassion for everyone around himself, not the mention he is a bit of an eccentric man, and he got away with it.
The Well Organized Mind
‘To the well-organized mind, Death is but the next great adventure’. I love this quote a lot, to me, it says that the person is truly at peace with themselves the point that death is not something that needs to be terrified of, that you can hold your head high when you meet those that had moved on before you with a smile on your face.
Death is something that happens to us all at different points within our lifetime, be it a family member or beloved pet. It comes down to how we deal with this that will have an impact on how lives move forward from that point. This quote gives me a little solace when I think about my family they have moved on with my grand adventure.
It’s Our Choices
‘It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities’. The one fundamental truth about humans is our ability and right to chose how we live our lives no matter what anyone else thinks or says. Now whether these choices are good or bad is not the issue, it’s about moving one direction and being confident about said direction is the right one you now.
This ability to chose is what will decide if we are a good or bad person in the eyes of society, not the choice itself.
To Dwell On Dreams
“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live”. To me, at least, this one means that looking at the big blue sky and missing what is front of your nose is a bad thing. What is the point of dreaming, not living that dream if you are going to sit there as look at your idea? Without goals and dreamers, the world would be a sad state, we would have the works of J.K. Rowling to enjoy in both written and movies, nor would we have any other significant and inventive things that we experience daily.
Do Not Pity The Dead
“Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living and above all, those who live without love”. I like this one a lot as it reminds us not to dwell on those that have gone before us with pity in our hearts but with loving remembrance. What I mean about compassion is that we sometimes, and I don’t expect everyone here, is that we tend to see death with harmful air and think that the dead got the wrong end of the long stick. To me, the departed now have the peace that they have longed for and not have to put up with all the shenanigans of the living. This one makes me lift my head and smile for the dead as I remember them in life.
The quotes, I have picked for this article are few of the many that have come from Albus Dumbledore. They are just the ones that I like the most, that make me stop and think for a few moments about what was being said and not just what said at the moment. The Headmaster of Hogwarts is a caring, eccentric man who loves lemons far too much and has the biggest heart in the whole book series. Yes, he has his faults, but I feel that his wisdom in passing on what he has to offer the next generation is his most significant gift that he could have given the wizarding world.
