Fan-Fiction Stories – My Favourite Ones to Read

Spread the love

Hogwarts Ties

I have a bit of an obsession with fan-fiction stories in general, but I really have one for Harry Potter fan-fiction stories. When I am not reading working or writing for my websites, I am reading stories. In this post, I am going to tell you about a few of the ones that I love the most and understand when I have nothing to do or before I go to sleep. I will not be going into storyline detail about these stories as I do not want to give away all the fun if and when you chose to read these stories for yourself, that would be no fun at all.

Walking Dead Wizard

When I came across this story on the fanfiction dot net, it made me rug my chin for a few seconds thinking that this would be an exciting read, and I will say that at this point, it has not let me down. I will only give you a basic outline of the story so that if you ever want to read it, it won’t be spoiled for you. This is a crossover with the walking dead, it’s rather good if I do say so.

The basic is that Harry ends up in the US via a port key that was malfunctioning and land right in front of the Dixon brothers when they were hunting, needless to say, it did not go well. This starts from the rock quay and the arrival of Rick Grimes, Harry’s story is in flashbacks, it stays with what happens in the show but with a few things different from the show. I will say that I am now the biggest fan of the walking dead, but I do like this crossover. It’s an exciting look into a “what if” type of story, would magically make it easier or harder to survive in the world of the undead.

A New Place to Stay

This story is a Harry and Severus had a father/son relationship, it has a rocky start as it is set after the fourth year at the beginning of that summer. The storyline carries on thru the remaining years at Hogwarts and the final battle, then beyond that. I like this story as you can see a side to Severus that is not in the books, but you got a tiny hint to it in the books.

Some sweet moments in the story highlights both of their characters that you don’t get to see within the book canon. I have always thought that Severus was a much deeper person than what was really shown, a lot of what I know with him comes from my own head ad the way I interpret his character.

The Last Straw

When I was looking for something else to read, as I do on occasion, I found this story. It’s a crossover with NCIS, and for those that like slash stories, it’s a Harry/Tim pairing. The basic premise is Harry is an Auror, he’s attacked one night on the way home for the pub, resulting in the inability to father a child. Things happen, he has a fallout with the Wesley family over the cancellation of the wedding with Ginny and the ministry send him overseas, this is when he meets Tim, and they start their friendship, the story moves on from there.

A Sith’s Second Chance

I am taking a step away from Harry Potter with this story by stepping into Star Wars; I happen to like this one a lot, but unfortunately, it’s not finished, and it has been a while since it was updated. Basically, it’s a rewrite of the first movies, so it’s about Anakin, but he comes back from the end of the Return of the Jedi as a Sith Lord because the force wanted him to go back and fix everything from before the beginning of the clone wars. The story line carries on thru the clone wars with a few things different from the way it goes.

Hidden Island

I came across this story and was very interested I am reading it, sometimes I do like to read a story that has Harry being Head of the House to a few more than just the House of Potter and Black, this is the case with this story. Have any of you seen the movie Avalon? Then you might need a bit of an idea about where the story goes. This is a fun read for me as it is nice to read a story that has Harry as a bit all-powerful but without the ego that goes with it.

Conclusion

The first thing I need to do is acknowledge the writers of these stories, DebsTheSlyterinSnapefan wrote Walking Dead Wizard and A New Place to Stay, Raspberry Dreams wrote The Last Straw, StormyFireDragon wrote Hidden Island and the last tale A Sith’s Second Chance was written by VFSNAKE. I found all of these on the fan-fiction dot net; I use this website almost exclusively for when I am reading, but I do, on occasion, go to Archive of our own or AO3, I like both sites, but I do have a preference for fan-fiction dot net.

The one fundamental thing about Harry Potter fan-fiction is that it is from the writer’s point of view regarding the canon from the writings of J.K. Rowling. What is comes down to what the writer takes from the principle and writes about that, not everyone will like or even agree with the way canon has been interpreted by the writer.

  1. Intersting article. I never even knew this existed. I am not a huge Harry Potter fan, but the crossover stories sound kind of fun. I just may have to take a peek someday when I get a chance. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thank you for the comment, the great thing about Fan Fiction is that there is a story for just about everything you can think of, be it books, manga, anime, movies or tv shows, Harry Potter just happens to be what I read a lot of. Thank you again for the comment.
